The hammering action is caused by air cushion between driver piston and striker piston. A lack of lubrication will cause this or too much grease has entered cylinder or hammer is stored with nose of hammer up. To much, or little grease, or old dirty grease will cause poor hammering action because the striker piston cannot move all the way to front of cylinder (when you slam tool against the work, you are actually forcing the striker closer to the bit). Clean both pistons and apply fresh grease, also make sure orings on these pistons are in good order.
If you think that the grease is ok, then try storing the hammer with nose down and bit removed so that the striker will creep down when still hot and be in the right position for next use /cold start. Drill only for drilling into wood or steel and chip only for chiseling concrete. Now for drill only you would have to change out the chuck for a jacolbs style.
The bits just snap in the chuck. To remove the bits you just slide the chuck sleeve back and remove the bit.
To change the chuck you wolulld place the palm of your hand over the chuck and using your fingers pull the sleeve on the chuck that is near the red housing towards your palm and just pull off the chuck. It will snap back on the same way. Answered on May 28, 2010 362 views.

It is rated up to 7.5 amps (850 watts) and produces 750 revolutions and 4080 impacts a minute. It has the best power to weight ratio in its class (light hammer drill).
It is for drilling in concrete for rebar, anchors or electrical. It is also perfect for light, corrective and finish chiseling on concrete and masonry, especially where it is difficult or unnecessary to get a bigger machine involved. The Hilti TE 30 is powered to hammer drill 1/4' holes to 1' (see manual for other uses) holes in concrete all day long. If you need more power, look at the TE-50.
